[XP] Solve Stop Error 7B on Windows XP Setup

If you get an Stop Error 7B / Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) on Windows XP Setup (for example Win Xp 32bit Professional) on an up-to-date machine, you should try changing the SATA Controller Mode from AHCI to IDE / ATA in BIOS. That should do the trick.

  1. This did not work for me. Still getting the 7b error.
    Motherboard: ECS Elitegroup P67H2-A2.
    CPU: Intel Core i5 - i5-3350P LGA1155 3.1 GHz 6MB Cache 69W
    Memory: Kingston 4 GB Sticks (8GB) DDR3 CL9 240-Pin DIMM Kit
Video Cards: 2 NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX OC
Hard Drives: 2 WD 1TB each RAID 0
Was running Windows 7 Pro but having video freezing problems while running my FS2004 Flight Sim and also blue screened several times while running the FS2004. Had all up-to-date drivers for motherboard and RAID 0. Had up-to-date video drivers for the 8800's running Windows 7. Got totally frustrated, no one could help me solve problem on web. So decided to reinstall Windows XP Pro and now I'm getting the dreaded 7b error after loading windows files and F6 installed raid drivers then windows attempts to startup and stop error 7b. Can't get any further than this point. Help Please.

  2. I would advise to check your RAM with the memtest Tool (Google will help you) to ensure that your Memory is ok. That could be the source of your problem. Other than that I would try another Graphics Card, maybe it is starting to fail. All the best, Nico
