{"id":145,"date":"2009-07-16T15:25:10","date_gmt":"2009-07-16T13:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nico-maas.de\/wordpress\/?p=145"},"modified":"2009-08-02T00:35:55","modified_gmt":"2009-08-01T22:35:55","slug":"get-ethernetcard-working-again-in-linux-under-esxi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nico-maas.de\/?p=145","title":{"rendered":"Get Ethernetcard working again in Linux under ESXi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After installing Ubuntu Server on Vmware ESXi, I couldn't find a NIC:<\/p>\n<p>sudo \/etc\/init.d\/networking restart<\/p>\n<p>* Reconfiguring network interfaces...<br \/>\neth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device<br \/>\nSIOCSIFADDR: No such device<br \/>\neth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device<br \/>\nSIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device<br \/>\nSIOCSIFBRDADDR: No such device<br \/>\neth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device<br \/>\neth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device<br \/>\nFailed to bring up eth0.<\/p>\n<p>Problem is that the ethernet MAC addresses are cached.<\/p>\n<p>To remove the cache values:<\/p>\n<p><strong>sudo rm \/etc\/udev\/rules.d\/70-persistent-net.rules<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Reboot, and it should work.<\/p>\n<p>Other NIC files:<br \/>\n* \/etc\/hosts - change ip address and hostnames<br \/>\n* \/etc\/hostname - change hostname<br \/>\n* \/etc\/network\/interfaces - change ip address<\/p>\n<div class=\"shariff shariff-align-left shariff-widget-align-left\"><ul class=\"shariff-buttons theme-round orientation-horizontal buttonsize-small\"><li class=\"shariff-button printer shariff-nocustomcolor\" style=\"background-color:#a8a8a8\"><a href=\"javascript:window.print()\" title=\"print\" aria-label=\"print\" role=\"button\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"shariff-link\" style=\";
