State of Decay: M.Sc. / Docker Campus Ambassador / Work

Hi there,

the last year was quite a ride, so I wanted to share some more or less private stuff about what is going on in my life currently:

a) As not mentioned here on the blog, I did my Bachelors Degree on Applied Computer Sciences at the University of Applied Sciences (htw saar) in Saarbrücken. After that, I started my Masters Studies in Computer Sciences at the University of Trier. I concluded my studies with the degree Master of Science in July of this year :).

b) As of July, I also started working as an Docker Campus Ambassador. The main idea of said program is to give students access to a fellow peer which is involved in Docker and could be kind of mentor to them in all Docker related questions - which was something I was already involved with back in early 2016, i.e. at the Saarcamp 2016 - so I decided to do said work in a more official way 😉

Sadly, I am going to need to resign from said position soon, as I am going to leave the University Trier at the end of the year. Which brings me to c):

c) I am going to move to another city at the end of the year and start to work for an yet to be disclosed coporation in the aerospace sector as IT Engineer with some additional work loads - which I am very excited about.

d) I am still working on my Ticketing / Convention Management System called JCTixx, and that system just got an big upgrade, in terms of new ticket scanners, which come in two different types: The big appliance version and a smaller, portable version:

Also, I had the oppurtunity to visit docker con Europe 2017 - which I am going to write about in a upcoming post.

So to sum it all up: This year was quite a ride and I am very happy how it turned out so far - and I am hoping for some vacation as soonish as possible - and more time to produce content for this blog :)! Thanks a lot for sticking with me, I just recalled that this blog is going to be 10 years old next year - which is quite awesome and I hope to continue this work with interesting articles and insights maybe from a higher - earth viewing perspective - quite soon ;).

All the best,

Nico

Letsencrypt - Now secured

Hello there,

now that finally the Letsencrypt.org project is alive, I did secure this blog with an SSL Certificate (yes, was about time!).
I did already pariticipate in the closed beta and secured about 5 websites (among them some RPis, of course!) and private hosted embedded devices.
Worked like a charm :)!
If you want to find out more about this awesome project or secure your website - go to https://letsencrypt.org/.
Let's encrypt all the things :)!

Back to Work

Good News Everyone,

I'm finally back to work. I managed to complete my apprenticeship as "IT Systemelektroniker" successfully and am still working at my old place.

At the moment, I'm diving into IPv6 and Cisco IPv6 Worlds and already got an Lab up and running - so maybe you get some fresh files and stuff soon.

Thanks for your patience!

Nico

Timeout

Hi there,

some of you might have been wondering why there weren't that much updates in the last weeks.
Reasons are simple:
1.) I'm going to write my finals on 4 of May.
2.) My Convention Managment System JCTixx, which has been in Development for about 10 Months and 1000 Manhours, is going through its Final Live Test on 7. - 8. of May in Ludwigshafen on the Hanami. I'm looking forward to serval 1000 to 10000s of Scans and Transactions. So... I pray for the T-Com to keep their systems up and running!

After that and some vacation, business as usual - at least I hope so.
For the time beeing, I recommend you some Portal 2 ;-).
Have fun!

Yours sincerly,

Nico

Thank you!

I want to thank all the visitors for an amazing amount of 1277 visits last month!
Yesterday I saw links to pictures and posts of my gps stuff in an Russian Forum and was completly stunned.
Originally the blog started in August 2008 to be an private online notebook for writing down all the little scraps and pieces of code and notes I have had flying around - and never found when I needed it.
I'm happy to see that some people seem to make frequent use of this website and actually find use in the stuff I write.

Thank you very much.

If theres anything you want to see different, have questions or suggestions, don't hesitate to write an comment!

Sorry for keeping you waiting

Sorry there, has been some time since the last post.
Nope, this blog ain't dead.
Problem was that I'm within a big project, taking place since June / July 2010 which didn't let me that much spare time.
Another thing I'm working on is my apprenticeship which will end in June this year.
And a lot of private stuff was going on.
So, I'm quite sorry and hope you're not disappointed.
Some new stuff will follow shortly.

Nico
